Upgrading Footcare Program For PSW's
This 3-day program will provide theoretical and supervised practical instruction in non-invasive footcare following the guidelines provided by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The program intended to upgrade the preliminary footcare training ("Level 1") of the PSW who has an extensive background in the assessment and care of compromised clients and works under the direction of registered nursing staff. In-class clinical practice will be on each other so please do no cut your toenails for 4-6 weeks prior to the class.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the nurse will be able to:
- Observe and assess the client in regards to general history and status of the feet.
- Identify and describe soft tissue pathology, nail pathology, bony deformities, high risk factors and provide appropriate management and teaching.
- Identify risk factors of the compromised client.
- Contribute to patient education regarding foot health and footwear.
- Identify foot health problems requiring referral.
- Perform footcare skills in accordance with company policy
- Perform simple padding techniques to protect the skin
- Collect and document data related to footcare.
